President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s Bomi County is
out of this year’s National County meet organized by the Ministry of
Youth and Sports.
Bomi ended her quest of retaining the title after
being defeated by Maryland County 2-0 in Harper City, Maryland County
on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in continuation of the preliminary round
of the competition.
According to reports gathered, Bomi mounted
immense pressure on the host, Maryland County to get back on course
after losing the opening match at home in Tubmanburg 3-0 against
Margibi County.
The latest results mean Margibi, Maryland and
Montserrado Counties will battle for supremacy to see which two
counties qualify to the knockout stage of Liberia’s most prestigious
sports tournament.
In kickball, Bomi County also went down to the
host Maryland 4-1 in a competitive encounter.
In other results in match day two of the
competition, Grand Bassa County, under the tutelage of Mighty Barrolle
deputy coach David Doe as head coach, edged host Sinoe County 2-1 in
Greenville to move on top of the Group D with three points.
Grand Bassa took the lead in the first stanza
through Jackson Lewis (younger brother of Mighty Barrolle midfielder
Little Lewis), but Sinoe reduced the score line in the early stages of
the second stanza.
With the score line at equilibrium (1-1), both
teams increased pressure in an attempt to secure the maximum three
points, but it was Sporo Somah’s fantastic strike that saw Grand Bassa
County collect such vital win to climb on top of Group D.
In kickball, the girls of Sinoe gave citizens of
that county something to smile when they narrowly won the visitors
8-7.
In Cestos City, RiverCess County, the host became
the first County to qualify to the knockout stage of the competition
with a 1-1 draw against visitor Gbarpolu County.
RiverCess tops group C with four points after
winning match day one against host Lofa County.
Still in Cestos City, the girls of that county
also booked a place in the knock out stage of the competition after
beating the visitors 17-4.
The last match of match day two saw host RiverGee
fall prey to visitor Cape Mount 1-0 in an epic clash.
In kickball, Cape Mount thrashed RiverGee 17-8
homes.
Meanwhile, the National County Meet is expected
to continue over the weekend of December 20, 2009 with more exciting
matches.
