Bob
Zeo's Transfer Money Disappears
-IE Vice President Stands Accused
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The Vice President for Operations of the Invincible Eleven (IE)
Majestic Sports Association is at a center of a money scandal. There
are allegations that he received US$4,000.00 on behalf of former
player Bob Zeo for the Sunshine Yellow Boys but failed to deliver the
money to the club.
Zeo, the former IE player who made the revelations to Radio Veritas
last Saturday, confirmed giving the amount to Mr. Dukuly along with 16
pairs of boots that cost $300.00 for his former club. It was disclosed
that the money was given the player by Ghanaian side Hearts of Lion
that he currently plays for. The money was intended to IE to provide a
provisional clearance for the player until his expected departure for
Germany.
Following the revelations that startled the IE community, a strong
supporter of the club, Alpha Mansaray expressed his own dislike over
Mr. Dukuly's alleged failure to deliver the funds to the club. "To our
surprise, Malike neither surrendered nor informed us about the money."
Mr. Mansaray stated that by such news, players of IE almost boycotted
the weekend match with LISCR FC, which they went on to win 1-0.
According to the IE supporter, Mr. Dukuly presented only L$35,000 and
16 pairs of boots as the latter's personal contribution to the club.
Speaking as Financial Secretary of the Montserrado County of IE, Mr.
Mansaray cried that such funds, allegedly misapplied by the IE Vice
President, should have covered expenses of the club including a
US$582.00 debt created by the repair of the IE bus by Africa Motors.
He said the Montserrado County Chapter was asking Mr. Dukuly to attend
its meeting on Saturday, April 9, to "better clarify himself" on the
issue.
"We are not holding him responsible yet until we can hear from him,"
the IE supporter noted.
To the IE Vice President, he added, "The ball is in his court from now
to Saturday. Failure on his part to appear on Saturday, he should not
be surprised for any action to be taken against him."
He, at the same time, told Mr. Dukuly to make the money in question
available if indeed the IE Vice President received the amount on the
team's behalf.
Mr. Mansaray claimed, "the players have not taken pay for even a month
from last year."
The IE supporter said it was the Montserrado County Chapter that has
been bankrolling the team this current season with no assistance from
the club's administration. In fact, an IE player remarked that there
was no president of the club as far as he was concerned.
As the Montserrado County prepares to give Mr. Dukuly his day in
court, Alpha Mansaray also invited fans of the club to be at the
meeting on Saturday because, according to him, the fans are the owner
of the club.
The news of the diversion of the club's money created frowns on the
faces of IE fans on Saturday. Most of the IE fans were eagerly
awaiting the arrival of Mr. Dukuly at the ATS apparently to vent their
anger against him, but unfortunately the accused did not appear for
the club's match with LISCR FC.
Mr. Dukuly has yet to vindicate himself from the charges that may cost
him his post on the IE executive committee.
