Black Star In Crisis!

By Roland M. Mulbah

Liberia Football Association (LFA) premier club, Black Star is said to be in serious crisis which according to report has impeded the team’s progress to defend the LFA premiership crown.

According to the team’s Vice President for Operations (VPO), Mr. Horatio Bobby Willie, materials arrived in the country from Italy for Black Star which have not been received by the team.

According to Mr. Willie, Mr. Dionysius Sebwe, a member of the board has been one of the problems in the team’s downfall.

He told Liberiansoccer.com that Mr. Sebwe confirmed the arrival of the materials in the country, but the team is yet to receive them which have hampered the team’s progress to compete for the LFA premiership crown among many things.

“I am totally disappointed in Dionysius who played for the Lone Star of Liberia and Black Star and clams to be a lover of this club, Black Star who received materials on behalf of the team and kept it while the teams struggled for materials.

“It has been two months now since I spoke with Mr. Sebwe concerning the materials which arrived from Italy, but he’s yet to say something positive.

“He confirmed the arrival of the materials which include jersey, boots and footballs, but we are yet to receive them.

“We are going into the second phase of the league, but facing financial and materials difficulties which are still obstructing our progress to make amends.

We are entering the second phase of the LFA premiership with our players complaining regarding materials.

“Let me be clear to say that among other things, Mr.. Sebwe is to blame for the poor performance of Black Star since in fact he received items on behalf of the team and refused to present they,” Black Star VPO noted in a rather frustrated manner.

He continues “We are calling on the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Honorable Joseph N. Boakai, who is the Chairman of the Board to act immediately for us to receive the materials,” Mr. Willie noted.

When contacted, Mr. Dionysius Sebwe said there were two choices made by the Board at the unset of the current campaign.

He said the Board decided that Black Star withdraws from the current campaign to have the opportunity to restructure the entire team.

He said the other choice was if Black Star will participate, those who registered the team must take the sole responsibility of the team.

“The Board decided that the team shouldn’t participate in the current LFA premiership so as to have the opportunity to restructure the team.

“We can not support an unprofessional team whose players are noted for selling games and very unreliable,” Mr. Sebwe, who is also Liberia’s Deputy Defense Minister for Operations noted.

As regarding the materials from Italy, Mr. Sebwe confirmed receiving the materials, but said “the materials are currently with the board.

“Those materials will not be use by a team like Black that is unprofessionally run.

“I have spent my personally funds on Black Star which I consider my baby and I am not willing to spend some on this current leadership.

“I have consulted almost all the funding members of the team so that we can take over the team nest season.

“This current leadership must give us chance,” Mr. Sebwe noted.

Meanwhile, Black Star VPO has confirmed the signing of 10 new players to augment the team for the second phase.

Mr. Willie named the players as Bob Cooper, Olu Karyea, Dominic Kekieh, John Mulbah and Treaky Dennis.

The named the rest as Richard Castrol, Tito Johnson, Prince Williamson, Caminue Tumamie and Treah Zemmie.

Black Star engages Jasmine Rangers today at 4: PM at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia.
