Bedford,
Others In Dubious Deal

By Roland M. Mulbah
With barely less than a week since getting to the helm of the
Liberia Football Association (LFA) Secretariat as acting chief
scribe due to the resignation of George Wah Williams, Acting
Secretary General Sam Polay Bedford has engaged in a dubious deal
which makes many to be doubtful of his credibility as head of the
football house secretariat.
With the national league now on and the deadline for club's
registration since elapsed, Bedford, Benedict Yarsiah, Assistant
Secretary General for Technical Affairs of the LFA and Executive
Committee member, Garmondeh Karnga who is also the Co- chairman of
the competition committee have carried on an eye brow decision to
turn the tables around in bending the rules as they ignore the
deadline date, reopen the books in the name of some cash to register
three First Division clubs.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the trio operated on their own as they
succumbed to the grease associated with the deal in allowing the
three teams, namely Tony FC of Monrovia, Mighty Electrons of the
ELWA community and Millennium of Kakata Margibi County to register
after the deadline and after a time the league has officially kicked
off.
When Yarsiah was quizzed on the matter, he noted "though the league
has kicked off and the deadline expired, there was room for First
Division teams to register, so we allowed the three to register".
Sources close to Mr. Karnga said, there were only seven First
Division clubs officially registered for the 2009 LFA league, they
thought it wise to allow the three teams register on a talking point
note for the league to be more competitive.
What they have so far failed to produce is any communication which
stated that though the deadline was over, there was still time for
other First Division clubs to register.
Reports indicate that, a stalwart of Invincible Eleven (IE) went on
to buy Tony FC on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 and prevailed on the trio
to allow Tony in the ongoing league.
The report further said, the club agreed to sponsor the printing of
the new fixtures, and the Tony FC registration issue was used as a
flood gate to allow Millennium and Electrons. To register three
clubs in the name of wanting fierce competition involves plenty of
talking, and the less than a week owe Acting Secretary General,
Bedford seems to be threading on a dangerous path.
This could be described as a new world record where the deadline for
registration of clubs is given and then expired, league officially
kicks off, and then after three days a certain trio in Bedford,
Yarsiah and Karnga do the unexpected and most condemning of issues
to register three clubs probably due to some kick backs received.
This is certainly another ugly picture of the LFA with Bedford still
being tightlipped on the matter.
