Barrolle, IE Beaten, Alliance On Course

May 2, 2006

The LFA championship chase continues on Sunday as Liberia's traditional rivals Mighty Barrolle and Invincible Eleven (IE) losing three vital points in their respective positions, while Alliance FC remains on course of cruising back to the premiership.

The Rollers lost to reigning champ LPRC- Oilers 1-0, thanks to an 80th minute goal from the pacy Mark Jedoe at the Nancy Doe Sports pitch in Kakata, Margibi County.

Gangling striker David Tarpeh, alias Jacques Chirac, was the architect of the goal as his beautiful piece of improvisation caught the Red Boys rearguard of Hallie Lahai bewildered.

He then released Jedoe who slotted the ball past an out of form Piscal Karblee to the delight of the Oilers bench.

The win puts the champions at the top of the log with 14 points in all of their eight first phase matches, while the former champions, Barrolle that squandered several chances remains at third spot with 12 points, and two matches on hand.

In the first pairing, Alliance FC continued their impressive run in the First division when they came from a goal down in the last quarter of the match to frustrate struggling Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) 2-1.

The win puts the Haddad boys, who are still undefeated, on top of the tree with 13 points in seven matches, while the youthful BYC side is still at the bottom of the tree with only a point.

At the Unification Town Sports pitch, Invincible Eleven's woes continued when they succumbed to promising USA-Invaders 0-1.

Ruthless striker Alfred Jaryen, formerly of second Division outfit Paynesville Young Controllers (PYC), got his side winner.

But it was the yellow boys misfit midfielder Selvester "Bayray" Dweh who had all the blame after wasting his side penalty which should have being the equalizer.

The win takes USA to second spot with 12 points in six matches, while IE who were walloped in their last match 6-0 by Gedi & Sons are lying third from bottom with seven points in six matches.

In the first match, in-form Zelors lost their first match in the first division contest when they forfeited to vastly improved Karn United due to late arrival.

Karn now has eight points, while Zelors are still with nine points in six matches.

At the ATS, the battle of the Second Division minnows, Survivors and Fulani ended with a 1-0 victory in favor of the former, and are now with six points in seven matches, while the once aggressive Fulani lies at the bottom with three points in seven matches.

In the final match of the day the match between premiership bottom of the table Roots FC and third from bottom Watanga was called off after 70 minutes due to poor visibility.

The score line was 1-1, and both teams will meet at a later date to player the remaining 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, the league continues on Wednesday at several venues.

At the ATS Antares Sisters and Senior Pro lock horns in a female classic for the opening match, while, for the first time this season, new premiership entrants Black Star comes to Monrovia as they engage Watanga FC.
