Barrolle, Oilers Win In Basketball Playoffs

Mighty Barrolle and LPRC Oilers emerged as winners in the just-started
playoff of the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF) 2005 National
Championship.
Mighty Barrolle narrowly overcame deadly rivals and the current
premier league champions NPA Pythons 63-61 on Saturday at the Sports
Commission on Broad Street.
Then on Saturday, LPRC Oilers whipped Uhuru Kings 70-62 before
basketball lovers.
The playoffs, meanwhile, began on Friday with three matches at the
same venue.
In game one, Flip Stars defeated Commissioners 49-46, while the
subsequent match saw K-Deltas winning over Commissioners in the female
category 39-36. The last match scheduled for that day, involving
Venture Knights and T-Chons, has been rescheduled for an undisclosed
date.
On Saturday, Dream Team thrashed St. Paul Crushers in game one while
Phoenix slapped Timberwolves 54-25.
On Sunday, Heat bowed to Flip Stars 56-52 in the first match as Flames
crushed Royal Legends 81-49.
There will be three matches on Wednesday in continuation of the 2005
basketball playoffs at the Sports Commission.
Timberwolves will face Phoenix in the female section in game one.
Another female encounter will thereafter be between Commissioners and
K-deltas, the reigning champions. Atlantic Great Ball Players will
host Dream Team in the final match of the day.
All matches are being played on a best out of three basis, with the
winners expected to advance to the final stages.
Eighteen teams recently reached the playoffs of the 2005 national
basketball season.
The teams got their qualifying status following the end of the league
version of the 2005 season recently.
In the premier league are Uhuru Kings, Mighty Barrolle, NPA Pythons
and LPRC Oilers.
In the First Division, the qualifying teams are Venture Knights,
Flames, T-Chons and Royal Legends.
K-Deltas, Phoenix, Commissioners and Timberwloves are the teams in the
female division's playoff.
As for Division Two, the teams that qualified are Flip Stars, Atlantic
Great Ball Players, Dream Team, Heats, Commissioners and St. Paul
Crushers.
