Barrolle Fans Celebrate League Triumph

By: Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

Fans of Mighty Barrolle are celebrating their club's league success this season.

The celebration began after Mighty Barrolle brought the Liberia Football Association (LFA) 2004 National Premier League to a close.

The Rollers went into the Saturday's clash, needing only a point to clinch the Premier League championship. But before their numerous fans, the Red Boys dragged Knockout Champions LISCR FC 1-0. George Miller was the lone goal hero in the second half. The goal from Miller sent the Barrolle fans into ecstasy after waiting for too long.

Before the championship-winning match, Barrolle had gone the second phase indomitably. Barrolle won all the matches it has played against LPRC Oilers, Monrovia Club Breweries, Invincible Eleven (IE) and Shoes FC.

Barrolle lost one match in open play and another against IE on the table as a result of violence caused by fans of the Red Boys when the two sides met on May 30, 2004. The rest of the matches ended in wins for the Rollers who now have 27 points.

Barrolle has a squad that arguably beats the rest. With David Nimely heading the technical crew, the likes of Solomon Grimes, a candidate for the best defender award, classical midfielder Abu Sando and tormentor-in-chief Joseph Sayon have been reliable instruments for havoc during the season.

If the needed result had not  come, Barrolle still stood the chance of winning the title in the last match with Alliance FC.

Meanwhile, the second place race intensified with IE whipping Shoes FC 1-0 on Sunday to grab 24 points.

LPRC Oilers also won 1-0 over Monrovia Club Breweries on Sunday to stand in third place with 23 points.

The weekend clash between    IE and Oilers will decide which team ends the league in the second spot and subsequently book a space for the 2005 CAF Champions League along with Barrolle.

On Friday, Blanco lost 3-0 to Tito United, the female knockout champions for 2004.

On Thursday, NPA Anchors defeated division one leaders Roots FC 2-1. NPA now moved to second place.

The same day, Watanga whipped Young Survivors 2-1.

The National League continues on Tuesday with Earth Angels meeting Pro Anchor Sisters while Black Star engages Roza.
