A new breed of players has won for Mighty Barrolle the Sam Burnette Trophy on Sunday. At the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) on Lynch Street, the Rollers thrashed their rivals Invincible Eleven (IE) 1-0.

In spite of the win, Barrolle had nothing to fight for after automatically winning the trophy on Friday by means of a 2-1 victory. In that game, the Rollers were down by a goal in the first half before bouncing back in the second period with two goals, the winner coming from Solomon Wesseh alias Jean Pierre.

Barrolle president Lewis Browne is from all indications determined to weed out several players who failed to win for the club a trophy. The new players that have been featuring in off-season matches for the Red Boys include Solomon Wesseh, Solomon Grimes, Takpoh Sonkaly, Toe Bryant, Boye Pratt, Morris Tarr, Bob Zeo and Nicodemus Jacob.

The tournament was organized by the Union of LFA Sub-Committees in Montserrado County in recognition of the contributions made by Sam Burnette towards football in Liberia.

Burnette, who has incapacitated by stroke, once served as captain of the Lone Star as well as President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) and Invincible Eleven (IE).
