Awards Before Basketball Elections

   LBF President, Madam Gbour Wilson

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The Secretary-General of the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF) has confirmed that the elections for the LBF would still be held in the country.

Ever since the expiration of the tenure of the former LBF President, Philibert S. Browne, the issue of elections is yet to be addressed.
Madam Gbour Wilson, a former basketball player, has already completed the term of the departed Browne.

The elections of the LBF were expected to be held in June but to no avail.

However, LBF Secretary-General Fred JA Pratt has promised that despite the delay, the elections would still go ahead for the federation.
He blamed the delay in holding the elections on the current concentration of the LBF on the pending closing ceremony of its 2006 National League Season.

According to him, the awards and trophies for the official closing ceremony are being awaited for arrival from the United States of America.

Mr. Pratt assured that as soon as the laurels reach the country, then the league would be officially declared closed.

Thereafter, Mr. Pratt thinks that the LBF would switch focus to the holding of elections of officials for the next four years.

LBF President Wilson succeeded Mr. Browne alias “Big Fish” after the latter took over the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) as President after defeating Mrs. Deborah J. Williams, the then incumbent.
