Cosmos feast on second helping of Scotch broth
As Anthony Laffor scores

July 17, 2006 Edition 1

Jomo Cosmos reversed Friday night's loss to Glasgow Rangers by carving out a well-earned 2-0 win over Scottish outfit Aberdeen at the Wanderers yesterday.

Cosmos gave themselves a perfect start against Aberdeen when Chris Katongo's low drive in the sixth minute found the back of the net.

The goal rattled Aberdeen, who were finding conditions difficult on the traditional cricket field.

Cosmos could have put the match beyond doubt before the break, but poor finishing saw numerous golden opportunities sail over the Aberdeen goal.

In the 22nd minute Calvin Kadi somehow missed with Aberdeen goalkeeper James Langfield stuck in no-man's land. Lucky Mhlathe also failed to bury what looked like a certain goal when he sailed the ball over the bar after beating the defence.

Cosmos were once again galvanised into attack after starting the second half at a snail's pace, but Abraham Guie Guie also ballooned his shot over the bar when it seemed easier to score. The contest was put beyond doubt when Anthony Laffor slotted home in the 73rd minute.

Aberdeen will have an opportunity to gain revenge on Wednesday when they meet Cosmos again
