The trip for the Lone Star to Dakar as she prepares to face the
difficult task of engaging the roaring Teranga Lions of Senegal in the
joint 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers is set for Today.
As the team parades a predominantly home based squad, many followers
predict hell fire for the Lone Star against their more experienced and
highly rated Senegalese opponents.
The youthful Liberian side, who are "doubt dark horses", leaves the
country this afternoon for the Lions den in Dakar.
The team is expected to leave with Joseph Sayon, alias Kofi Bruce, as
coach who currently has no deputy after Wilfred Lardner refused to
take the position of the deputy to serve under Kofi Bruce in a
hurriedly and "eyebrow raising" arrangement orchestrated by lands,
Mine and Energy Minister Jonathan Mason.
The crestfallen Lone Star is expected to parade fifteen local based
players led by its captain, Varmah Kpoto, who many sports analyst
described as "misfit".
Other famous names in the lineup include promising defender Shelton
Barlee, net buster Isaac Tondo, rockie goalkeeper Melvin King and the
craft man James Koko Lomell.
The Ghanaian duo Bob Zeo and Anthony Lanford as well as the unattached
Francis Doe are to stiffen the National Team.
In a related development, three foreign based players are said to be
in route to join the team in Dakar.
The Greek based trio of midfielder cum striker Kelvin Sebwe, defender
cum midfielder George Gebro and explosive midfielder Oliver Markor are
said to have purchased their tickets and were to be in Dakar yesterday
for the highly rated duel.
It is not yet clear as to what arrangement was made for the player's
inclusion, since authorities at the Sports Ministry made it
emphatically clear that Government has no money to address the issue
of Foreign based player's inclusion.
If it is certain that the three players are in Dakar, it would serve
as an inspiration to the team as it would be strengthen for the clash.
Also, it would be another nervy decision as three players would be
dropped to make way for the three Greece based.
The Lone Star currently lies fourth on the table in her group, while
their opponents are at the pole position in the group standings.
