As Lone Star Fund Drive Continues:
Jackie Travel Makes Significant Contribution

03/ 01/ 2004 Monrovia-As a way of identifying with the National football team, the Lone Star, Jackie Continental Travel Agency has made a significant contribution of L$20,000 to help the team with its training which began last week.

Making the presentation to Lone Star Fund Drive Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Joyce Reeves Woods, Jackie Continental Travel Agency CEO, Mrs. Jackie Capehart said in times likes these, the Lone Star needs the financial and moral support of every Liberian. "It does not have to be a million dollar, but any spare cent that a Liberian can lay hands on and contribute to the Lone Star will help with team preparation for the 2006 World and African Cup qualifiers.

She said her contribution was not the first, nor will it be the last. She related that in the past, her
Travel Agency and others made meaningful contributions like pre-financing most of Lone Star trips abroad.

She urged the Sports Ministry and the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to ensure that Lone Star adequately prepares for the qualifiers which are slated to commence in June this year. Liberia takes on Mali in June in Monrovia.

Meanwhile, the President of the Liberia Travel Agency Association, Mr. George Kailondo has commended the Jackie Continental Travel Agency for its gesture towards the National football team. He said such gesture should be commended by all well-meaning Liberians who want to see the Lone Star progress in the 2006 World Cup and African Cup qualifiers.

HE also disclosed that the Travel Agencies operating in the country are on record for always contributing towards the cause of the Lone Star. He recalled how in the past when the Government could not afford to shoulder the travel fair upfront, most of the Travel Agencies pre-financed the Lone Star trips. "We did what we did in the past for the love of country and also to show our support for sports," Mr. Kailondo said.

Commenting further, Mr. Kailondo said the unity that now exist within the Travel Agency industry in Liberia is cordial, something which will make it easier for the Lone Star to make its trips abroad without any hindrances.

HE also disclosed that most of the travel agencies in Liberia have been upgraded to international standards, thus travelers and Lone Star will not face difficult in their travels.

In related development, Mr. Kailondo is calling on the Government and Liberians to continue to support the Lone Star, as well as Liberian businesses if the country is be on par with the rest of the world.

In another development, the Lone Star has intensifies its training at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS). Presently, there are only local players attending the training sessions under the watchful eyes of coach Kadalah Kromah.
