As LFA Rejects
Nyenabo, Brown:
LFA Has No Right Stop Weah - Says
Jlekrong

The Analyst (Monrovia)
The President of Borough Old-Timers and Fraternity Association (BOTFA)
Mr. Samuel Jlekrong says he does not see what rights the Liberia
Football Association has to stop soccer legend George Weah from taking
over the presidency of the Bassa Defender.
Speaking to The Analyst via telephone Interview, Mr.Jlekrong said LFA
authority=s recent decision to opposed Soccer ambassador George Oppong
Weah as president of Bassa Defender has no bearing on the bylaws and
constitution of the FA.
According him, the local football house was mis-interpreting and
misapplying Article 1, Section 1.3 of the statute, which clearly state
that Athe election of the Executive Bodies of any association or
institution affiliated with the LFA shall be supervised by the Liberia
Football Association (LFA).
The BOTFA President asserted that that part of the statute was clear
on election but not on the appointment of individuals by the
Executives, adding that the LFA should not suppress the nomination of
Bassa Dfender.
Mr. Jlakrong, who was former Vice President for Operation of the LFA,
further argued that the local football house can only get involved
into the issue when Weah's taking over of Bassa Defender was involving
election.
But he noted that since Weah was appointed by the Executive of the
Bassa Defender, having met the approval of the Board of Director of
the Club, there was no need for the LFA to interfere.
According to him, Weah is not the first club president to be
appointed. He maintained that several club presidents have been
appointed in the past in similar fashion.
He named the President of Black Star, Pennoh Bestman, IE President
Isaac Nyenabo and Mighty Barrolle President Lewis Brown as clear
examples.
He noted that the incumbent LFA President Cllr. Izetta Wesley ascended
to that position in 1997 through the nomination of a first division
club, Survivor F.C.
After the local football house can opposed the nomination of sports
ambassador George Weah then the coming of Cllr, Wesley at the FA need
to be questioned,@ he noted.
Meanwhile the The Analyst has gathered that the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) has rejected the nomination of Invincible Eleven (I.E)
President Isaac Nyenabo and Mighty Barrolle President Lewis Brown on
similar grounds.
