Arcadia To The Rescue Of Local Players

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

Since the disappearance of George Weah, James Debbah, Christopher Wreh and the rest from the big football stage, the impact of Liberian players is yet to be felt of late.

As a result, the new breed feels satisfied with going to lower Asian leagues, particularly Indonesia, where over three-dozen Liberians are based. This is due to the goodwill of Anthony Ballah and Fallah Johnson.

However, Arcadia Martin Toe is threading the footpaths of Johnson and Ballah by securing clubs for his compatriots.

Having traveled far and wide in Asian nations like Vietnam, Bangladesh, China, Malaysia and Philippines, the Liberian striker thinks the time is now ripe to give a helping hand to his brothers who are craving for greener pasture.

The player, who became famous for scoring Liberia’s lone goal in a 4-1 defeat to Mali last year in the 2006 Nations and World Cup qualifiers, has just landed in the country from his base in the United Arab Emirates, the country Weah and Debbah ended their careers.

Formerly of Al Shaaba, Arcadia now kicks football for Fujira Al Ahly in the top flight.
The Liberian international striker stated that three of his colleagues are now with him in the UAE. He named them as Godfrey Miller, Abdul Lahai and Ibrahim Kollie alias Sheik.

According to him, Lahai has already secured a contract with the 2nd team of his former club Al Shaaba, while Miller and Sheik would be hired in the second week of this month.

Like he did for the trio, Arcadia, who arrived with his two daughters Arcadialine and Arcedia, hopes to do more to take his struggling compatriots abroad. While in the country, he promised to spot potential talents for possible contracts abroad.
