Old-timer Honors Knuckles!

The Alpha Old Timers Sports Association on
Sunday, April 19, 2009 honored veteran Liberian sports administrator
Mr. Willis D. Knuckles, Jr. for his valuable services to the
Association for the past 39 years.
The ceremony took place at the Association
football pitch in Duport Road in Paynesville in a one day soccer
tournament.
The four teams that made up the Alpha Old
Timers Sports Association, Hunters, Lions, Vikings and Strike Force
were in attendance.
Hunters, the team of the honoree emerged as
champions after defeating Strike force in penalty shoot out in the
first match and a 1-0 victory over Lions in the grand final.
During the closing ceremony, Alpha old Timers
president Mr. Musa Bility, who is also president of Liberia Football
Association (LFA) premiers club Watanga FC, said honoring Mr.
Knuckles is being hailed by members of the Alpha Old-timers since in
fact the veteran has shown not only passion for the world’s popular
sport, but for his numerous services to Alpha Old Timers and the
sporting circle in general.
As for his part, Mr. Theophanous C. Gould said
39 years ago Mr. Knuckles was part of a group that organized Alpha
and honoring him at this time was expedient.
He said, the honoree has struggled over the
years to make Alpha second to none in Liberia.
He refereed to Mr. Knuckles as the living
Alpha.
In a short statement from the honoree Mr. Knuckles, said he was
happy to be with Alpha for the past 39 years and hopes to be around
for at least 10 more years in an effort to make the association a
formidable force.
