Liberia’s International Director for Sports, Adama
C. Kiawu, and his family have denoted three bags of rice to the
national soccer team, the Lone Star, ahead of their crucial
international match against Equatorial Guinea.
Making the presentation on Tuesday at the Ministry
of Youth and Sports, Mr. Kiawu said this was his own way of
identifying with the team as they gear up for the Ghana 2008 campaign.
He noted that sports is the was force that could
reunite Liberians and help them to put behind the past to move ahead
following the seven years of civil conflict. “As a Liberian, I will
not relent in contributing toward the development of the most popular
game.
I see the game as a unifying force and as such, it
was crucial to the country’s rebuilding process”, he said. Receiving
the donation on behalf of the ministry, Deputy Minister of Youth and
Sports, Marbu Richard, said the gesture was highly commendable and it
demonstrated the International Director is concern about the team’s
preparation for the encounter on Sunday.
Minister Richard, who described the donation as a
major boost, said helping the way out was the most crucial thing for
the nation’s sporting program rather than sitting on the fence to
criticize and issue threat.
