Accept Criticisms Madam Wesley, Says LNOC Boss Brown As 15 Executive Takes Seat Finally

April 17, 2006

The President of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) Philibret Brown has cautioned the President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Izetta Wesley to accept criticisms if she is to run football in this country.

Speaking at the induction ceremony of the officers elect of the local football house, Mr. Brown said as head of an institution you should be prepared to accept all blames as they relate to the running of the institution.

According to him, the public sees you as the direct marrow of the institution who is responsible for its growth.

He said leaders are there to render services to the people and as such they should stand ready to accept those burning issues that they feel impeding on the growth of the institution.

"To be good leader you should be able accept the views of the people so as to move the institution forward," he said.

He also said that running an institution is not an easy task because you should be willing to accept all criticisms as well as those who are opposing you.

The LONC boss further noted that if you are to succeed in running the world's most popular game you have to extend your arm to all your critics for the good of the game.

He however expressed surprise over the way in which politics has gripped into the sporting cycle.

He said the wide dosage of politics that has gripped within federations and associations are unhealthy for the development of sports in the country.

He then vowed as President of Liberia National Olympic (LNOC) to discourage the trend in which politics is being played within the federations associations.

"Politics is not good for sports. It should be discouraged now if we are to be on par with others on the continent as well as the rest of the world," he concluded.

Just few minutes after of the LNOC boss' statement, it was reported that the newly inducted Vice President of Operations Adoulf Lawrence was quoted as saying he was shocked over his boss Wesley's snub to shake his hand at the end of the ceremony.

At the same time, the installing officer of the ceremony, Liberia soccer legend George Manneh Weah, said much was needed to be done to improve football in the country.

In a chat with reporters at the end of the program Ambassador Weah said Liberia is rich with talents but only needs to be supported in all disciplines.

He said he feels hint when nationalities of other countries are at the top flight in Europe and his Liberian brothers and sisters are not among their numbers.

"We have people who are capable of doing the same like others in Europe but only need the support," he noted.

The program, which took place at the Monrovia City Hill saw fifteen (15) persons been inducted in to office for the next four years term.

They include Izetta Wesley, President; Ponneh Bestmen, Vice President and Adulf Lawrence, Vice President of Operations.

Others are Idrissa Kaba, Executive Member; Rodney Wilson, Executive Member; Mustapha Raji, Executive Member; Urian Glaybo, Executive Member; and Peter Kabi Executive Member.
