-As LFA
Premiership 1st Phase Ends

Though many termed the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) league as the worst in the sub region due to the
lack of sponsor for the over crowded premiership, the only FA in the
world without a website and Public Relation officer (PRO) as well as
the league lacking the glamour, attraction and enthusiasm associated
with contemporary football, there have been some fantastic showings by
players and coaches in the just ended first phase of the league though
authorities of the FA have been involved in some dubious activities
evidence by the missing of more than USD $53, 000.00 from the LFA
Account where authorities of the LFA went seeking loan from Eco-Bank,
it does not in any way mean players plying their trade in the league
are not terrific.
Though the league lacks contemporary football
interest, but there are some fantastic players plying their trade in
it who aim to make amend in their quest for competitive football and
must be hail.
Liberiansoccer.com Senior Reporter Roland M.
Mulbah brings details of the over crowded LFA premiership.
The top flight of the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) has ended with a bit of excitement.
In a league dubbed "The old and accomplished
guys verses the young and hungry lads", fans or followers of the local
game have enjoyed themselves so far with local football.
There were 365 goals scored in 306 games with
Sensational LPRC Oilers becoming the team of the first phase and the
best performing team so far.
The Gabriel Johns guided side when unbeaten in
the entire first phase scoring the highest goal and the least goal
conceded.
The gold and black outfit reached a record point
of 43 (13 wins and 4 draws).
Dark horses Barack Young Controllers (BYC) was
astonishingly the team to watch
after the youthful premier outfit secured the
second highest wins as well as goals in the top flight securing second
spot with seven points behind leader sensational LPRC Oilers , while
Mighty Barrolle pulled some tremendous routines in their mission to
battle Oilers for the title chase, but the Rollers could only manage
to secured third spot, but with such massive training for the second
phase, pundits believe the oil boys will have mountains to climb in
the second phase.
Monrovia Club Breweries is another surprise of
the season toppling sentimental favorite LISCR FC, Margibi County
based Mighty Blue Angels and Musa Bility’s Watanga FC for 4th
position on the 18 teams LFA top flight log.
Though there were other teams pulling surprises
such as Jasmine Rangers, Gedi and Sons, Adorence FC and others, keen
observers the real excitement will be in the second phase where the
championship will heat up and teams battling to blear from the danger
area, the relegation zone.
Best Performers
Saylee Swen- LPRC Oilers
The oil boys toweling gloves man is indeed the
player of the first phase in the LFA premiership after setting record
as the only goaltender in the Liberian top flight to concede the least
goal (6) in the entire phase.
He is also among the top goal scorers where he
netted in four goals for his side from the spot kick.
Bill Paytoe-LPRC Oilers
Considered the best performer so far for Oilers
in defense, pundit believe the gifted defender is not too far from
clinching the best defender at the end of the championship where his
side has put up a massive performance for the title chase.
Andrew Swaray-BYC
The attacking ace is one of the reasons Barrack
Young Controllers (BYC) is a formidable force in the ongoing title
chase. His verve, precision and jinks in attack are qualities that
catch the eye. His unending tackles and runs as well as his whole
hearted approach make him a class asset on the local stage.
Mohammed Varney-MB Angel
The top scorer in the ongoing campaign, the
predator in the box has no doubt set the league on fire. With 10 goals
so far, the pacey hit-man is making life uneasy for opposing defenders
and goalkeepers. With his side Mighty Blue Angels expected to be
strong at home as usual, visiting teams to the Unification Town Sports
Pitch will have a lot to do defensively to cage a very close friend of
the net with the surname Varney.
His 10 goals have set MB Angel on the way for the
LFA premiership challenge.
Matthew Dede-BYC
One man who is responsible for BYC meteoric rise
above some of the elites of the local game is a certain Matthew Dede.
His lanky posture causes him to be over looked at
times, but it is noticed that when he is in possession he is a
magician with the ball at his feet.
Whether BYC will challenge till the end or be
like the Premiership side Hull City that started brightly, but are now
struggled to stay in the Premiership is anyone guess, but for Dede, it
is just the tip of the iceberg.
Weika Wisseh- Barrolle
This hard working striker of Mighty Barrolle is a
giant on the park.
His physical posture, fighting spirit and goal
scoring prowess have made the ex-Gedi & Sons front runner to be
amongst the country's leading strikers already with nine goals to his
credit.
