Rennie
Becomes Deputy Chief Ref
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Day by day, the man Sylvester Dorbor Rennie continues
to be a household name when it comes to sports in Liberia.
Known popularly as the Only Licensed and
Certified Coach in sporting circles, Attorney-at-Law Rennie has now
filled the vacuum of Deputy Chief Referee at the Liberia Football
Referees Association (LIFRA).
Reports emanating from LIFRA said the versatile
sportsman's selection was a result of the contributions he made to
the referees association in Liberia and sports in general.
His appointment occurred days after his return from
Banjul, The Gambia, where he was one of three Liberian referees,
including the Chief Referee of Liberia Alex Nagbo, that officiated
the match involving the host Wallidan and Club Africain of Tunisia
in the first edition of the Confederations Cup.
Before then, Attorney Rennie, alongside the retired
Chief Referee Idrissa Kaba and close friend Buster Snyder, made name
for their country when they handled the tough match between the
Leone Stars of Sierra Leone and Morocco's Atlas Lions during the
2004 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Freetown.
Though with more years on his side, Attorney Rennie is
one man who has say in nearly all sporting federations and
associations in Liberia. Apart from being a FIFA and CAF badge
Assistant Referee, Attorney Rennie is the Vice President for
Administration of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) and
the Liberia National Track and Field Federation (LTFF).
He is also the secretary-general of the Liberia National
Swimming Federation and Interim President of the National
Association of Sports Federations and Associations of Liberia (NASFAL).
At the same time, Attorney Rennie serves the Liberia
Referees Association and the Friends of Friends Haitai Association (FOFHA)
as head coach respectively.
It is based upon Attorney Rennie's activities in these
organizations that The News Newspaper certified him as Sportsman of
The Year 2003.
